Apple is pushing forward with plans to introduce its first foldable iPhone in September, aligning its debut with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This development counters earlier speculation from Nikkei Asia, which suggested potential delays due to engineering challenges during testing phases. Gurman notes that while the device’s intricate design may restrict initial availability, Apple remains committed to releasing it concurrently with or shortly after its non-foldable counterparts. With the launch still approximately six months away, the exact timing remains subject to change, as highlighted in the report.
The introduction of a foldable iPhone represents a strategic pivot for Apple, enabling the company to more effectively challenge competitors like Samsung and various Chinese smartphone manufacturers that have long dominated the foldable market. Apple’s entry is anticipated to bring several enhancements over existing models, including advancements in screen quality and overall durability. Additionally, the company has reportedly minimized the visibility of the crease when the device is unfolded, addressing a common pain point in current foldable designs.
